Because panic attacks are usually strong and frightening physical reactions and they can appear out of nowhere.  

The point is that when we are anxious and are panicking, we have a stress charge in our body that cannot be resolved with willpower alone. Therefore, the unique characteristic of the TRE® method is that we process anxiety and stress overload  in a supportive way at the deepest level, via the autonomic nervous system.

When we are not feeling well, when we are anxious and tense, when we feel panic or are 'just' stressed, it affects our entire body. In panic situations or acute stress, part of our nervous system assesses the environment as no longer safe. We become a bundle of tense muscles to protect our existence.

The stress hormone adrenaline in our blood makes us alert and ready. The muscles contract, the heart starts pumping, the pupils become dilated - for our body this is biologically a matter of survival.

This state is called 'fight or flight' mode. It used to allow us to escape or fight off wild animals. So in the normal case of this activation, the state was fulfilled by us fleeing or fighting back, so that the body could then regulate and calm down.

Today, when our brain signals 'danger' from merely a business email or stressful conversation that triggers this stress response in us, we continue to carry around the stress energy and live in a constant state of physical alarm.

With TRE® (Tension and Trauma Releasing Exercises), we use the natural tremor mechanism in the body like a valve to release the physical emergency mode and overwhelm.

It is always about safety. We can heal when the body understands that it is safe.

What is TRE®?

TRE® is a body therapy developed by US psychoneurologist, theologist and PhD. social worker Dr. David Berceli as a support for anyone suffering from stress, tension, burnout, anxiety and/or trauma. 

TRE® overcomes language barriers because it is a process that does not require talking about the event, the feeling or the problem. We do a series of 7 exercises that work with the muscles of the lower body and build some tremors in the legs. We then lie on the floor and encourage these natural vibrations, the tremors, to move through the body without trying to control it. It is a wonderful feeling of physical and emotional release without being overwhelmed. 

The method is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease. 

How does TRE® work?

TRE® helps you to release panic attacks and stress tension, to better process traumatic experiences and to manage your energy well. And all this in a fairly short time. 

Our natural coping mechanisms are not designed to withstand a constant stress load.

When the 'fight or flight mode' kicks in over and over again, without calming down periods or the possibility to actually act out the 'fight or flight' reaction, i.e. to get rid of the provided energy, we remain in a constant and persistent state of tension. This tension is experienced physically and psychologically as (diffuse) anxiety, overwhelm, exhaustion, restlessness or panic.

A feeling of helplessness is a common state for people who are overwhelmed by traumatic stress and anxiety. Taking control of your symptoms, your body, and your life is an essential part of any healing process. TRE® is a helpful tool for achieving this. 

At first glance, it might seem unusual to let the body shake itself free, so to speak. But neurogenic tremors actually help us to start a comprehensive physical process to relieve stress at the deepest level.

For whom is TRE®?

The so-called neurogenic tremor mechanism is present in all humans (and mammals). Everyone can access it, no matter how old, fit, tense or anxious he/she is. It is the body's most organic and natural way of releasing anxiety reactions, deep muscle tension and stress patterns, reducing the charge of stress hormones such as adrenaline and cortisol, and restoring the body to its original balance.

TRE® helps you achieve a new sense of safety, connection, relaxation and well-being. You and your body start working as a team and support each other from there on.

How often should you do TRE®?

We say that it is best to learn TRE® at least 4 times over a period of 4 - 6 weeks with a certified TRE® provider. This way you can be sure that you are doing the exercises correctly and are not overwhelming your nervous system. The body will be safely introduced to the new experience, so that you can then use the process yourself at home after our work together.

How to learn TRE ® ?

I strongly recommend qualified guidance and accompaniment in learning the TRE® method, especially after traumatic experiences and dealing with anxiety. Furthermore, the TRE® method should not be used as a substitute for medical or psychological procedures for processing trauma.
